Stations is a site-based public art project exploring the boundaries between presence and absence, memory and erasure, loss and belonging. More than an exhibition, it is a participatory experience, an invitation to step into the threshold of transition and engage with what is passing before it disappears.
The project began in response to destruction. After a tornado destroyed a forest near my home in Nashville where I had spent a year walking and recovering from a period of serious illness, I began inscribing words onto the fallen trees, leaving language where the landscape itself had been altered. The process became an act of witnessing, composing poetry that existed only until time and nature reclaimed it. From this, Stations emerged as a form, an evolving structure that integrates text, image, and sound to examine the fragile relationship between meaning and impermanence.
Each installation of Stations adapts to its setting, engaging audiences in an active relationship with change and disappearance. The exhibit consists of:
- Visual Elements – Photographs capturing the original forest inscriptions, displayed alongside transcribed verse.
- Soundscapes – Layered audio compositions blending field recordings, cello, and sonic collage.
- Site-based curation – Visual and audio elements are displayed and engaged with through a careful consideration of individual spaces and contexts.
- Performance & Engagements – Live presentations incorporating guided reflection, audience participation, and interactive elements.
Each iteration reshapes Stations, making it not just a record of change but an invitation to presence. It has been exhibited in galleries, public spaces, and digital platforms, with each setting transforming its impact. This project continues to evolve, shifting with each space and the people who encounter it. If you are interested in hosting an exhibition, collaborating on a site-specific installation, or exploring how this work might take shape in a new context, I welcome the conversation.
